The Sommerberg Stud was founded in 1992 by Walter Derwald Dipl.-Kfm.

It consists of an area of around 15 hectares of pasture along with 28 stalls in 3 stables (for breeding mares, for yearlings and external stalls).

The concern has been managed privately, but since 2004, also as a commercial stud.
